jauary first and it's allready clear, it's gona be another shity year
So i've been siting here thinking of what it is the top ten albums/ books / movies of 2006. and you know what? i can't think of ten.
so my clumsy atempt at top five ablums:
1. hello saferide, introducing hello safe ride (i think this came out in 2005, but i didn't hear it till this year.
2.thermals, the body, the blood, the machine. this is a really good pop punk album with a tinge of jesus land sarcaism.
3:crusive happy hollow, no where near as good as domestica, but still ok
4.luna, the best of luna. i don't know about this, it's a really good album, but like most of their ablums, i can't stand to listen to it stragiht through...
5. johanna newsome, ys. i just bought this, and i don't particluarly like it, but it was on pickforks top ablums and jason caimes its really good, so...
6. bright eyes, niose floor, this is an ok album, never mind that i've got every song on it already...
and in dead last palce, the new yo la tengo ablum, i'm not afraid of you and i will beat your ass. it's not all that bad, but the anticipation of getting "the new I Can Hear the Heart Beating as One" ruined it for me. sure there are some more poppy songs on it, but their are some dead songs as well, and not the dead in the studio, but the dead going on and on because jerry's to stoned to remeber what song he's playing type songs.
top five books? i haven't got a clue. i don't pay attention to when books come out. but the last five i bought:
1: the castle, by franz kafka.
2: nick hornby, about a boy (really bad supermarket type reading, but i still love it)
3:john stinbeck, east of eden
4: Vladimir Nabokov, invation to a beheading
5:Fyodor Dostoyevesky, notes form underground
i'm really pretty sure not one of them came out in the last year, with the exception of the hornby book, it would be a sreach to say they came out in the last fify years (at 1959 nabokoc is the only one under)
movies are a intersting problem cause i didn't see all that many, and the ones i did see were really bad.
1The World's Fastest Indian. a suprisingly good movie that has some apeal to non motocycleists too. first released in 2004-2005, but this year marked it's first real release for those of us not in new york, la or devner (it played at the starz film fest)
2: flyboys. yeah a WWI movie, it wasn't all that bad.
3: cashe. i don't know when it came out, but the dvd came out this summer, and it's not great, but it's ok...
